“I am not sure if you remember me, however, last July, I had nearly drowned after being caught in a riptide.  A few weeks later, I became increasing weak, and while I thought I had thrown my back out, the pain was actually due to a tremendous infection (pneumonia) impairing my right lung.  You had performed the surgery removing a large portion of my lung one year ago today. I just wanted to write and express my overwhelming, heartfelt gratitude to you.  I am extremely grateful for your expertise and can't thank you enough.”
 — Letter from a patient to Dr. Brook

“Lung cancer has been the leading cause of cancer death in the world. Recent scientific advances are changing the way we think about lung cancer and have given us new ways to diagnose and treat this disease.”
